Welcome to the Garw Valley Railway
Further update on Grant funding

This week has seen receipt of another Grant offer, this time from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust for £5872 towards rebuilding internal facilities within the Train Shed. So, more good news, and further appreciation to the funders for their assistance.

Welcome

The Garw Valley Railway is based on the former Pontycymer to Tondu branch to the north of Bridgend which was curtailed to Pontycymer after 1997. Most of the track remains “in situ”, with two short lengths having been lifted. The line is single track, with potential station sites at Pontycymer, Pontyrhyl, Llangeinor and Brynmenyn. The closest national rail station is Tondu on the Maesteg Branch. Pontycymer is a 15 minute drive from the M4 at junction 36.

The Company hopes to restore passenger train services between Pontycymer and Tondu within the next 10 years and possibly into Brynmenyn Industrial Estate where a National Railway Centre could be developed.

Update on Grant funding

Good News ! We have received confirmation of two grants - one from the Bridgend Association of Voluntary Organisations , to a value of £1000, for materials to restore the Shark Brake Van . Most of the materials have been purchased ready for work to start in the New Year.

The second grant is from the Awards For All fund, and is for £4593. This will cover the construction of a replacement stores block inside the Train Shed.

Thanks are due to the funding bodies and these grants will add to the progress of the railway's development.
